ROGUE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
The current trend of interest in Sketchup as an Architectural tool has been super detailed, colorized Construction Documents. Although this use of SketchUp commands all of my respect, the fact remains that only a small, very small, percentage of the population can afford these beautiful drawings. So what can be done to reduce client costs and make it possible to reach a broader spectrum of potential clients? I say,
"Go Rogue! …. Keep it Simple, Keep it Light, and Make it Beautiful”
Below are listed 8 basic methods that reduce costs substantially thereby making SketchUp and Layout used together as a viable, competitive architectural tool for a much larger percentage of the potential client population :
1." What? 2D Floor Plans in SKP that are linked to Layout? "
- Why use primarily 2D Floor Plans and Site Plans created in SketchUp for use in Construction Documents?
This will be explained in depth and demonstrated in detail at the workshop.
2. " 2D Floor Plan for Building and Revising"
- Using a 2D Floor Plan in your 3D model as a guide to building models as well as modeling revisions.
3. "Minimal Details"
- Minimizing detail in the 3D model, 2D floor plans and 2D Site Plans. Learn what to detail and what to leave basic and why.
4. "Doors and Windows"
-Keep door and window openings / jambs / trim super simple both in 3D and 2D and why.
5. "Poche"
-The fastest, best way to Poche.
6. "One layer in SKP”?
-I do not use multiple layers in SKP... I use groups and components only. However, I do use layers extensively in Layout… why?
Come to the workshop and discove the answer.
7. “ Outliner”
-Using the Outliner sparingly rather than religiously… meaning I only name the minimum necessary groups or components in order to
save time. At the workshop I will demonstrate how to reasonably search for unnamed lost groups or components.
8. "For the Love of Black and White”
- Making spectacular drawings in predominantly Black and White compositions.
I look forward to meeting you all.
